After building the world’s largest Super Soaker, engineer Mark Rober’s next project to take the internet by storm is a hot tub filled with sand. The fluidized bed, similar to those used in industrial applications, creates what Rober calls a “nearly frictionless” surface and makes the sand behave like a liquid, allowing for all sorts of tricks as well as for people to swim in it.

In order to make it, Rober needed to research patent drawings for industrial fluid beds because it was impossible to find instructions for making a small version at home. Now that he made his own he has included a BOM and instructions on how to make a small version using glass beads – as well as plenty of footage of the hot tub.
