This Star Wars-looking wind turbine factory will be a new source for powering Germany. Specifically, they will be used to “fight the elements in the stormy North Sea,” said GE Reports.

The turbines will power Merkur, a 400-megawatt offshore wind farm. It will also provide 500,000 homes in Germany with power during the second half of 2018. Germany’s goal is to “generate 80 percent of all electricity from renewable sources by 2050, and the offshore wind farm is part of this transition,” said GE Reports.

GE first explores offshore wind about 10 years ago and came back into the industry in 2015 after acquiring energy assets of Alstom. They then built their first windfarm in Long Island Sound near Rhode Island.
