Google Glass never took off in the consumer world, but GE is using it to speed up work on their aviation projects. GE Ventures funded Upskill, an augmented reality software company that is now returning the favor by working with Glass and GE Aviation to make sure torque wrenches are applied correctly. GE says that jet engine makers lose millions of dollars annually because some b-nuts aren’t screwed on correctly during testing. The Skylight software gives mechanics a heads-up when they use tools such as a torque wrench, showing exactly how much to tighten b-nuts. GE found that efficiency improved between 8 and 11 percent during the time in which they tested the glasses with 15 mechanics. More information can be found here.
