Software Takes On Documentation Tasks

Engineers are required to navigate a never-ending stream of information exchanges. There are change orders, change notices, specifications, documentation, schedules, and drawings. Unless automated review, mark-up, and archiving processes can be available to all members of the project team, the information stream can quickly swell, becoming a torrent of confusion and chaos. Designed to address these challenges, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional automates and accelerates the exchange of complex drawings, specifications, and project information.

Used with the free Adobe Reader software, all members of a project team can share, mark-up, manage and archive information securely, efficiently, and accurately. Acrobat 7.0 Professional features commenting tools, support for 3D content and large-format drawings, and XML-based creation capabilities.

The software can be used in the field or on a desktop for engineering purposes. It can help reduce the number of steps required to complete each cycle, minimize errors, and help ensure accurate project archives. For even greater efficiency, it lets engineers integrate the review, mark-up, and approval capabilities into existing PTC, Agile, and UGS PLM systems.

Using Acrobat 7.0 Professional, users can initiate e-mail- or browser-based reviews. Comments from multiple reviewers can be merged into a single PDF file so that all comments can be viewed in one place. Comments made on PDF documents can be converted back into original AutoCAD DWG files, where they can be reviewed as a separate object layer.

The software also lets users distribute information securely inside and outside of a firewall. In addition, U3D objects can be imported into PDF files, allowing anyone with the Adobe Reader to navigate the content using pan, zoom, and rotate features. Additionally, users can use JavaScript to animate the presentation of the content.
