

CADSEEK shape-based search software is designed to integrate with CAD software to provide fast, accurate, geometric-based parts and assembly searches. Engineers can search an enterprise-wide CAD database by zooming in and “flying over” files in a virtual reality-like universe of spheres on one computer. The software’s coding algorithm captures the totality of shapes, including surfacing information and associated detail. CADSEEK uses 3D part geometry as the basis for the search, rather than text-based descriptions or volume (voxel) technology. Offering linear (unlimited) scalability, the software works regardless of the orientation of the part being searched. CADSEEK consists of two fully functional software modules. Its search engine module selects a target part and search results in picture form. The visual navigator is the total CAD database visualization module. Engineers can use CADSEEK software in four ways. The first is to load an existing image of the target or similar part. The second is to enter the part name or number or a portion of it. Thirdly, engineers can use a CAD program to sketch a target part. And lastly, engineers can use the visual navigator to view (fly over) the database, picking a CAD file from spherical shapes representing families or clusters of like parts. The software is said to eliminate part redundancies, allowing engineers to identify and consolidate existing redundant parts and eliminate potentially new redundant parts as new products are designed.
