New Scale's (Victor, NY) latest micro-positioning system fits eight axes of motion into an 80 mm space. This implementation solves an optical alignment problem in a new and highly miniaturized instrument. Drive electronics are integrated right into the module with no external control board. Other features include:

  • The multi-axis positioning system operates on 3.3 V.

  • Accepting of high-level motion commands directly from a system processor over an I2C interface.

  • A closed-loop resolution of 0.5 µm.
