Designed in response to the growing demand for power analog ICs that deliver precision power, performance, and value, as well as high speed, high voltage, and low quiescent current silicon design, a new line of power amplifiers combines patented IC circuitry with evolving high speed, high voltage fab processes. The PA78, PA86, and PA69 are high-speed, high-voltage ICs targeted at the growing use of piezoelectric devices in industrial and medical markets. Piezos are hailed for their ability to generate extremely fine movement in applications such as commercial ink jet printers and ultrasonic cleaners. These high-speed units offer users various combinations of high speed, high voltage, and low standby current. The PA78 Series in capable of achieving slew rates of up to 350V/sec. The PA78 Series also delivers up to 150 mA of output current while generating standby current of less than 1 mA, depending on performance requirements. Slew rate performance is independent of supply current while exhibiting a functional relationship to voltage amplitude. More simply stated, as voltage supply increases, so does slew rate. Target applications for the PA78, PA86, and PA69 can utilize the devices’ abilities to deliver voltage with speed to control precise movement. Users designing piezo drive and deflection circuits can use the performance options these ICs. The ICs’ input stage has the effect of adding variables to the power response and slew rate characteristics of the amplifier. This also translates to input related effects on open loop gain and phase.
