Multilayer Complex Coatings

This line of complex coatings with more than 100 layers is produced via a coating chamber measuring 45 in. in diameter. The coater produces catalog products such as polarizers, laser mirrors, short wave pass and long wave pass filters, beamsplitters, and dichroic color filters as well as multilayer custom designs. The fully automated coater features two electron guns (E-guns), planetary rotation, and a high-output ion gun, which produces “shift-free” coatings. Quartz crystal and optical monitoring allow the manufacturer to meet coating tolerances of less than ۫ percent. The coater can predict and execute layer termination using either quartz crystal numbers or transmission values calculated from curve fitting algorithms matched to the measured optical monitor values.
