Molding Compound

A bulk molding compound (BMC) is formulated specifically for the automotive market. Designated BMC Grade A103, this new polyester-based grade facilitates injection molding of high-intensity discharge (HID) and traditional automotive headlamp assemblies. It reflects the increased use of thermoset molding compounds in the automotive industry. Grade A103 is suitable for headlamp reflectors, as the thermoset compound provides dimensional stability during long-term exposure to heat and vibration. It also exhibits low emissions under high heat, an important characteristic as the headlamp reflector is created in a vacuum metallization process and volatile emissions will cause blistering of the metal and ultimately device failure. In addition to overall aesthetic appeal, parts made from Grade A103 are lightweight, fog-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and creep resistant, and demonstrate high strength-to-weight ratios.
