Miniature Photo Interrupters

The new BPI Series of photo interrupters is specified for IR/optical applications such as copies, printers, high-speed industrial machinery, garage door openers, and photo encoder-based devices. These miniature devices are said to include high-precision optics as well as a variety of gate widths. The photo interrupters, which can serve as alternatives to conventional switches, eliminate backlash and delays in detection speed and accuracy. Suitable for both ac and dc systems, the devices offer non-contact detection, a long life span, and low power consumption. Engineers can choose from a variety of versions, including 24 slotted, seven actuator, and five reflective types. These include mini-reflective models that are available in axial and gull-wing packages. Harnessed/connectorized miniature models serve as plug-and-play units for replacement and reduced installation costs. Actuator versions offer levered operation in device packages as small as 0.374 x 0.394 in. (9.5 x 10 mm) from base unit to optic line. Light beam interruption of the actuator units is 0.35 VOL (@ IOL= 16 mA). Forward voltages (VF) of slotted types range from 1.5 V maximum (@ IF = 20 mA), IR of 100 mA (@ VR = 5V), and gap widths from 0.125 (3.18 mm). Encoder versions include two-bit PTR and dual-channel OEIC (Rambo OEIC) functions. Custom functions and packaging are available. The BPI series photo interrupters are priced from $0.15 per piece in production quantities. Prices for BPI series photo interrupters with PCboard assembly start at 30 cents each.
