This image represents an anti-backlash radiation hard resolver with gearing. It provides precision encoding in a radiation environment. By employing a precision spring the backlash in the encoding system is taken out, which allows accurate values of the process to be sent to the motion control system.
Empire Magnetics’ (Rohnert Park, CA) vacuum and radiation hardened gear motors are being utilizing by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) on research instruments at the organization’s Bragg Institute research facility. Their features include:
A pressure rate as low as 10-7 Torr.
A temperature-rate at 180°C internal, and 155°C for the case.
A bearing lubricant vapor pressure below 10-9 Torr at 100°C.
A continuous output torque ranging from 15 to 400 inch lb. (1.7 – 46 Nm).
A momentary peak torque from 30 to 1000 inch lb. (3.4 – 113 Nm).
Available with rotor inertia from 0.17 to 36.7 oz-in2, and continuous output power of 700 to 7800 watts.
