Four-pair Vertical Headers

The AirMax VS line of connectors and interconnect systems now includes 4-pair vertical headers and right-angle receptacles. These products are designed to improve PCB routing density and multiple Insert Molded Leadframe Assembly (IMLA) counts and spacings for optimized board real estate consumption and trace routing. A protective cover on the vertical headers works to ensure maximum protection of the open pin field structure, serves as a press-in block, and provides maximum protection during shipment and installation. AirMax VS is well suited for backplane, co-planar, mezzanine, and cable-to-board applications. The addition of vertical headers and right-angle receptacles is said to increase the system’s scalability, flexibility, density, and headroom performance. The AirMax VS system uses air as the dielectric between adjacent conductors to provide high signal density, low insertion loss, and low crosstalk. The system, which requires no space-consuming metal shields, features versatile high-speed backplane connectors. All the products are scaleable to the number of columns and many module sizes are available. Engineers can choose from 3-pair, 4-pair, and 5-pair versions as well as 2-mm, 2.5-mm, and 3-mm spacing. AirMax VS connectors allow for custom pin assignment (signal, power, differential, or single-ended), so systems can grow from 2.5 to 25 Gb/s without redesign of the basic platform. Furthermore, the connector features a dual beam, double-sided contact system. This design allows contact to be made on both sides of the header pin, reducing the risk of loss of contact due to shock or vibration. The blade slides into a receptacle with two points of contact on each side of the blade. Four-pair AirMax VS supports a variety of systems, such as PICMG 3.0 ATCA. The system is well suited for applications in a variety of communications equipment, including IP routers, switches and gateways, ATM switches, IP PBXs, and high-speed enterprise routers. Pricing starts at $0.20 per mated differential pair, and lead time is typically 12 weeks.
