D-subminiature Connectors

The Cannon Grommet D line of D-subminiature connectors is built for extreme environmental conditions. A high-density rectangular connector system, Cannon Grommet D features silicone rear grommets and interfacial sealing. This design allows the device to function even when immersed in water or corrosive liquids. A fluorosilicone grommet seals all the wire leads entering the rear of the connector. The interfacial seal prevents leaks between the mated plug and receptacle. To enhance corrosion resistance, engineers can choose to add optional stainless steel shells. The Cannon Grommet D consists of a shell and insulator with copper alloy machined contacts. The contacts feature heavy gold plating to ensure a high level of integrity in the mated connection. The interconnect touts a contact retention of 40 N after 10 insertions. Said to withstand high voltages, Cannon Grommet D offers average flashover ratings of 1,000 V (from sea level to 20,000 ft) and 500 V (50,000 to 70,000 ft). The contacts have a maximum current-carrying capability of 5 A. The connector is specified with an operating temperature range of -65° to +150°C. Standard densities range from 9 to 50 pins. High-density versions range from 15 to 78 pins. The device can be used in a wide range of applications in industries such as aviation, marine, chemical/petrochemical processing, medical device, food processing, automotive, and heavy industrial equipment. Cannon Grommet D pin connectors are available with pre-loaded, non-removable contacts for board termination in PC board applications. In these applications, engineers simply apply epoxy to each contact cavity and the shell to seal.RoHS-compliant versions are available. Prices range from $12 to $48, depending on volume and part size.
