Compact, Versatile Drive

Type NEMA 4X denotes corrosion-resistant construction, many times the only approved approach when equipment must be mounted in food processing or storage areas. The combination with Type NEMA 12 provides additional protection against dust in areas including equipment rooms containing air intake plenums.

The  V74X allows selection of either Volts/Hertz or open loop vector control for speed/torque performance to suit the application. In addition to tighter speed regulation, open loop vector control provides higher torque at lower speeds.

Yaskawa’s compact V74X high-performance adjustable frequency AC drive, providing the choice of two control methods from a very small package, is now available in an integral NEMA Type 4X/12 enclosure.

The new V74X incorporates the full features of the drive into an integral enclosure that meets NEMA Type 4X/12 indoor use requirements, UL Type 4X/12 standards, and the IP66 rating of IEC529 for harsh washdown and dust-tight environments.

These include installations where drives are exposed to severe environmental conditions or hose-directed water and indoor installations where dust is encountered or accumulated.  The cast enclosure is powder-coated to protect against harmful effects by sanitizing chemicals commonly used in food processing areas.

The resulting V74X enclosure is ideally suited for wet or dusty application environments common in food and beverage processing, packaging, metal machining, woodworking, pumping, refrigeration and printing.

According to the company, the features of the versatile V74X include:

  • Capabilities for digital programming of almost 200 parameters, while a digital pulse train input ensures precise frequency entry.
  • A digital operator with a 4-digit LED status display.
  • 7 standard multifunction inputs access 17 preset speeds.
  • Analog input, a multifunction Form-C relay output, two multifunction open collector outputs and analog output.
  • An RS-485 Modbus RTU network communication port allowing up to 32 nodes on a single network is standard.
  • Plug-in interface option boards enabling network communications via major protocols, including DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, and EtherNet/IP.
  • Simple installation and set up, with easy access to operating constants via the Digital Operator’s LED readouts.
  • Operating conditions including output frequency and current monitored through the digital operator.
  • Global compatibility to CE, UL and Cul requirements.
  • Availability in ratings of 1/8 to 10 HP at 230 VAC and 1/2 to 15 HP at 460V.
