Cell Phone Patent Screens Biological/radiological Threats

Washington, DC – Gentag announces the Patent 7,492,254 "Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Based Sensor Networks," covering the uses of cell phones to read remote disposable RFID wireless sensors for homeland security applications.

This important patent complements Gentag's Homeland Security Patent 7,109,859 covering using threat sensors on cell phones and Patent 6,031,454 covering Radar Responsive Tags combined with Sensors.

Patent 7,492,254 covers a number of transportation and homeland security markets for reading disposable wireless RFID sensors with cell phones, to allow government officials, DOD, police, the shipping industry, and consumers to immediately identify threats with their cell phones.

The patent specifically covers the screening of shipping boxes, containers, trains, or aircraft with RFID cell phones.

"The issuance of this new patent is an important step toward our vision to create low ubiquitous cell phone-sensor networks," announces Dr. John P. Peeters, the founder of Gentag.

"Our cell phone-sensor patents now cover both sensors on the cell phones or the ability to use cell phones to read remote RFID sensors for chemical, biological or radiological threats."

RFID cell phones are an emerging global market initially promoted by the NFC Consortium.

The market is actively being developed by Qualcomm, Sony, Nokia, Samsung, and LG. The core cell phone-RFID sensor technology platform is available immediately from Gentag and works anywhere worldwide.

In addition to Homeland Security, Gentag's platform technology has obvious diagnostic applications and could dramatically reduce the costs of medical monitoring using cell phones.
