The MPR121 features increased internal intelligence.

Freescale Semiconductor (Austin, TX) is expanding its broad portfolio of touch sensing solutions with the addition of the MPR121 ultra-low-power capacitive sensor. The MPR121 is the second-generation sensor controller, following the MPR03x series devices. The MPR121 features increased internal intelligence and Freescale’s second-generation capacitance detection engine, without increasing complexity. Features include:

  • Support for up to 12 touch electrodes.
  • 1.71 to 3.6 V operation.
  • Extremely low power, with 29 micro amps average supply current.
    • All 12 electrodes monitored with 16 ms response time.
  • Continuous independent auto-calibration for each electrode.
  • Separate touch and release trip thresholds for each electrode.
    • Hysteresis and electrode independence.
  • Drives up to 8 LEDs or provides up to 8 logic I/Os in any combination.
  • 3 micro amps maximum shutdown current.
  • I²C interface with IRQ output to advise electrode status changes.
  • 3 x 3 x 0.6 mm 20-lead QFN package.
  • -40° to +85°C operating temperature range.
