Daihatsu Motor Co. said Wednesday it is recalling a total of 764,053 minivehicles due to possible damage to a gear shaft in a continuously variable transmission and faulty engine sensors.

The nine models subject to the recall include the Move, Tanto and Mira, manufactured between May 2006 and November 2010, the automaker said.

When the cars are accelerated suddenly or the engines are switched off at a high rotational speed, oil pressure within the transmission could rise excessively, possibly causing damage to the gear shaft or causing the engines to race, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

The recalled vehicles also include those equipped with faulty sensors which could cause engines to stall due to insufficient heat resistance, it said.
