TOKYO, Feb. 12 (Kyodo) — Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Tuesday it has received an order to supply turbines and generators for a heavy oil-fired power plant to be built by a Saudi state-owned power company.

The Japanese firm is to deliver the four sets of 700-megawatt-class supercritical pressure steam turbines and generators, as well as boiler components, to the 2,800-megawatt plant in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia between September 2014 and March 2015.

The supercritical pressure, heavy oil-fired power generation facility, the first of its kind to be built by the oil-rich Middle Eastern country, can reduce oil use and will emit fewer carbon dioxides compared with a subcritical pressure power plant, according to Mitsubishi.
