NEW YORK, Jan. 3 (Kyodo) — Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the maker of Subaru brand cars, is recalling about 634,000 vehicles in the United States due to smoke and fire risks associated with door lights, a statement posted on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website showed.

The report, received on Dec. 26, said a short circuit could occur if the lights to illuminate the area under the doors get exposed to an electrolytic moisture source, such as a spray that has road salt in it.

The recall covers four models -- the 2010-2011 Legacy, 2009-2012 Forester, 2010-11 Outback and 2006-2012 Tribeca.
