TOKYO - Mazda Motor Corp. said Wednesday it returned to the black in the April to September period, citing brisk sales of the CX-5 new sport utility vehicle both in Japan and overseas.

Mazda said it booked a group net profit of 5.74 billion yen in the first half of fiscal 2012 from a year-before loss of 39.88 billion yen and an operating profit of 11.48 billion yen from a loss of 21.64 billion yen, on sales of 1.02 trillion yen, up 6.7 percent.
