Chinese court hears Apple appeal on iPad trademark
A Chinese court has begun hearing Apple's appeal against Proview Electronics which is challenging the U.S. company's right to use the iPad trademark in China and elsewhere.
Proview's lawyers expressed confidence as they walked into the Guangdong High Court in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou on Wednesday. They also indicated the company remains open to settling with Apple Inc.
Apple is appealing a lower court decision against its demand that Proview transfer mainland China rights to the iPad trademark that it says it bought in 2009.
Proview is also suing Apple in the U.S. for alleged fraud and unfair competition, hoping to have the 2009 deal to sell the iPad name ruled void.
