SolidWorks 2011 Focuses on Speed, Collaboration

The new SolidWorks 2011 product family from Dassault Systèmes includes improvements requested by customers and program users in three main areas: working faster and smarter, deepening communication and collaboration, and engaging with manufacturing.

To work faster, SolidWorks 2011 offers new drawing detailing functions, simplified 2D interfaces, an electronics cooling module to set up and execute thermal simulations, and a new menu bar that fits in with Windows Explorer.

To deepen communication and collaboration, the software offers better photorealistic rendering technology, walk-through capabilities, a defeature tool to simplify drawings, and an interactive “storyboard” capability to deliver process instructions through interactive images.

To engage better with manufacturing, users can now automate weld placement and documentation, blend calculation tables, and integrate SolidWorks Design Checker into Solidworks Enterprise PDM software.

“We’re deeply committed to providing a design experience that is both intuitive and powerful, and SolidWorks 2011 embodies that commitment,” said Austin O'Malley, executive vice president of research and development for DS SolidWorks. “In addition to improving design productivity, we’ve made communication of designs more effective, maximizing intellectual property value and shortening product delivery times.”
