U.K.’s largest subsurface engineering consultancy selects Abaqus FEA from SIMULIA as primary geomechanics analysis solution.
VÉLIZY-VILLACOUBLAY, France and PROVIDENCE, R.I., USA— Dassault Systèmes has announced that Senergy Group, a global integrated energy services company, has selected Abaqus Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software from SIMULIA, the DS brand for realistic simulation.
Abaqus FEA will be the company’s primary analysis tool for geomechanics and structural stability assessments within subsurface engineering projects.
Senergy is a leading provider of global engineering services for the oil & gas and alternative energy industries. Senergy selected Abaqus FEA software from SIMULIA due to its ability to accurately predict behavior of rock formations and to capture rock-structure interaction taking into account nonlinear effects such as plasticity and compaction that are important in subsurface geological environments.

Senergy is using the realistic simulation capabilities in Abaqus to analyze rock behavior in petroleum engineering projects, including simulating sand production in open- and cased-hole petroleum wells, evaluating well bore stability, estimating compaction in depleting reservoirs, and predicting loads on sand-control equipment.
“Using FEA provides us with a more sophisticated method to understand and predict realistic behavior of complex geological environments,” says Phil McCurdy, principal geomechanics engineer, Senergy.
“We selected Abaqus due to its industry-proven track record and well-documented use cases. Its open architecture also gives us the potential to link reservoir geomechanics models and flow models for more precise co-simulation and multiphysics solutions.”
“Time, cost and safety are critical factors in the Energy exploration industry,” states Ken Short, VP, Strategy and Marketing, SIMULIA, Dassault Systémes.
“We work closely with our customers, such as Senergy, to gain an in-depth understanding of their challenges. This enables SIMULIA to deliver robust, realistic simulation solutions that help them accelerate engineering decisions, while minimizing risk and improving profitability.”
