“It takes more than one entrepreneur to build a thriving, successful company. For us, it was the right mix of people in support of a solid business plan.”
Galvin went on, “Kionix’s success was driven, in part, by our strategic decision to remain in the Central New York area where we have access to a highly-skilled work force, opportunities for business, academic, and government collaboration, and a community infrastructure that supports our operations.”
At the same time, Galvin acknowledged that there were significant challenges along the Company’s 17-year course to acquisition in 2009 by ROHM Co., Ltd. (Kyoto, Japan), foremost being the dearth of investment capital in Central New York.
Despite vastly larger competitors, Kionix advanced to rank among the world’s top three MEMS inertial-sensor manufacturers, a tribute to Galvin’s leadership, personal vision, clear thinking, and perseverance under great pressure—all qualities acknowledged in the award’s imparting.
The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards celebrate their 24th anniversary this year. The program honors entrepreneurs who demonstrated exceptional prowess in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
As an Upstate New York, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia award winner, Galvin is now eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young LLP Entrepreneur Of The Year 2010 national program.
Award winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California, on November 13, 2010.
