Truck hauler idling 115-120 with GM plant closing

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A Georgia-based company that hauls medium-duty trucks built at a doomed General Motors Corp. plant is laying off 115 to 120 workers.

Most of those Allied Systems Holdings Inc. is laying off are drivers. Secretary-Treasurer Fred Ortiz of Teamsters Local 332 says the company is laying off about 10 others.

About 400 workers at the GM Flint truck plant will lose their jobs at month's end when the automaker stops making the GMC TopKick and Chevrolet Kodiak medium-duty trucks.

Ortiz tells The Flint Journal the drivers are owner-operators who have invested as much as $150,000 in their vehicles.
