Telephonics wins $17M Lockheed Martin contract

Telephonics Corp. said Wednesday it has secured a $17 million contract with Lockheed Martin Corp. for radar systems for helicopters.

Telephonics, based in Farmingdale, N.Y., is owned by Griffon Corp. Griffon is based in New York City.

Its five-year contract is to support radar for the U.S. Navy's MH-60R maritime strike helicopters. The helicopters are used to protect fleets from submarines and ships.

Telephonics specializes in communication between aircraft, radar systems, landing and guidance systems and other areas.

Shares of Griffon closed Wednesday up 39 cents, or 3.7 percent, to $10.82.
