Oil giant donates $1M to catalog Stevens papers

Oil giant BP PLC has donated $1 million to the University of Alaska Fairbanks toward cataloging and processes papers from the congressional career of former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens.

BP says the donation to will allow the Rasmuson Library to process more than 4,500 boxes of papers and media connected to the Alaska Republican.

Stevens deposited the papers at the library earlier this year.

Stevens was convicted last year for failing to disclose gifts. The charges were dismissed earlier this year because evidence was withheld. Stevens, the longest serving Republican in Senate history at 40 years, lost his 2008 bid for re-election.
