Officials: Company looking at Ascension Parish

SORRENTO, La. (AP) — Economic development officials in Ascension Parish say a company is looking at a Mississippi River site for a $2 billion plant that could bring in 300 jobs.

Officials with the Ascension Economic Development Corp. said the prospect backed off its previous interest in the parish, but now is showing renewed interest.

The site is located near an Ormet Corp. alumina site that closed in 2006.

For now, officials say the company is requesting confidentiality.
