FairPoint Communications Inc. said Wednesday that Chief Financial Officer Alfred Giammarino has resigned.
The resignation of Giammarino, who is leaving the telecommunications company for personal reasons, takes effect immediately. FairPoint's senior vice president and controller, Lisa Hood, has been named finance chief on an interim basis, the company said in a news release.
Charlotte-based FairPoint, has operations in 18 states. It has been hobbled by heavy debt and technical problems since paying $2.3 billion in 2008 for Verizon Communications Inc.'s land line and Internet phone operations in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, and filed for bankruptcy reorganization last October.
FairPoint submitted a reorganization plan in February that calls for its debt to be cut to around $1 billion from nearly $2.8 billion.
