Construction company Aecon awarded two contracts worth $125 million to modify Regina refinery

TORONTO — Aecon Group Inc. (TSX:ARE), a major construction services company based in Toronto, says its Aecon Field Services division has won two contracts worth $125 million from Consumers' Co-operative Refineries Ltd. to modify the processing equipment at the company's Regina refinery.

The project includes mechanical work, fabrication, and installation of pipe and other equipment at the refinery, Aecon said Friday.

Work is scheduled to begin soon and is should be completed by the summer of 2011.

"This project award is strategically very important to us, as it represents a breakthrough into the Saskatchewan industrial market," said Paul Koenderman, executive vice-president of Aecon's industrial division.

Aecon, with more than 4,500 employees at the end of 2008, is involved in most sectors of the construction business, from highway repair, bridges and sewers to airports, industrial and office buildings and schools.

In trading on the TSX, Aecon shares rose 39 cents to $12.48, a gain of 3.2 per cent.
