Chevron spokesman doubts move will hit Hawaii

A spokesman for Chevron says he doubts a move by the company to cut 2,000 jobs in a restructuring will have much impact in Hawaii.

Spokesman Al Chee said Tuesday that he expects minimal or no impact on the company's roughly 300 employees in the islands.

Chee says a study done last year found it made more sense for Chevron to keep its oil refinery in Kapolei than to turn it into a terminal that receives refined fuel via ship.

The refinery is one of two in Hawaii, producing 54,000 barrels a day. The other refinery, owned by Tesoro Corp., has a capacity of 94,000 barrels a day.
