The latest driver update from 3Dconnexion includes intelligent 3D navigation and a streamlined 3D mouse user interface to Google SketchUp, which will give users more control of their designs and their workspace.

When controlling spin, tilt, and roll motions, the new intelligent 3D navigation automatically follows the point of interest in order to continuously determine the center of rotation. It automatically sets the center of rotation to a point on the model that is nearest to the display screen center – a feature that is helpful at higher zoom levels. Designers can also pick a new center of rotation to suit their design tasks.

The 3D mouse interface is streamlined, with a pop-up menu that centralizes all 3D mouse related options. The pop-up groups functions and hides unnecessary details to keep the SketchUp design space clear.

Helicopter mode allows users to fly-through floor plans or city blocks, similar to the navigation used in Google Earth. Users can tilt the camera up/down or left/right to look at details while moving around a design.

The enhancements are currently available for Windows and will be available for Mac in September using a free software update.
