Spam Is Killing The Environment   4/20/2009
There are plenty of reasons to hate spammers. Add this to the list: They're environmentally unfriendly.  A report being released Wednesday by security company McAfee Inc. finds that spammers are a scourge to your inbox and the environment, generating an astounding 62 trillion junk e-mails in 2008 that wasted enough electricity to power 2.4 million U.S. homes for a year.     Continue
The New Race To The Moon   4/20/2009
A new team of U.S. and Japanese researchers is stepping up the global race to perfect a cutting-edge technology that could offer an alternative to embryonic stem cell research.  Kyoto University and iZumi Bio Inc., a biotechnology startup based in South San Francisco, Calif., announced this week that they would begin collaborating on "induced pluripotent" stem cell technology - a type of cellular reprogramming that turns the clock back on ordinary skin tissue.     Continue
Designing A Winner   4/20/2009
Unfortunately I found my thoughts wondering last night as I watched the Milwaukee Brewers lose their fourth straight game. It's bad enough that they've all come at home and that two were courtesy of the much-hated Cubs. However, the real issue is that he last two from the Reds show a significant design flaw in the composition of my beloved Beer-Makers. Stability Offers Targets Of Opportunity(2)   4/20/2009
Over the past week the Product Design & Development Stock Index rose to a 3-month high of 1330.51. This is up more than 50 points from last week's 1278.11 posting. During the same timespan the Dow Jones is up about 130 points, but the closing bell yesterday showed lower than Monday's high of 8102.41, finishing at slightly better than 7900.     Continue

Time Warner Charges For Internet Traffic   4/17/2009
Bowing to mounting public and political pressure, Time Warner Cable Inc. said Thursday it was shelving plans in four markets to charge customers based on how much Internet traffic they generate. But tests of metered billing will continue in Beaumont, Texas.   Continue
