Additional evidence of the semiconductor industry’s future can be found at booth 3309 where Balluff Inc. will showcase its BOS 2K family of photoelectric sensors. These sensors combine full functionality in a miniature package that is 20 x 7.5 x 10 mm. The tiny units offer the same functionality found in much larger sensors. They have a scan range of up to 1.2 m and offer four different sensing modes, including diffuse for part identification, diffuse with background suppression, retroflective for part verification and counting, and through-beam for part sizing and position information. A full range of reflectors, mounting brackets, and connectors is available. In addition, these sensors can be attached in slots, pockets, guide rails, or any place a sensor is needed. They are suitable for a variety of assembly and handling applications and are especially suitable for the semiconductor industry. Each unit contains a pinpoint LED emission feature that offers the precision of a laser for exact aiming and positioning. It has an IP67-rated plastic housing that offers protection in harsh environments.
