Stepping Driver (3519)

The Star Bipolar MSU500 is a low-cost, five-phase constant current chopper driver with microstepping capabilities. It is designed to handle the high speed and torque performances of size 17 to 23 stepper motors rated up to 1.4 A. It is engineered to provide smooth, quiet operation and versatile integration into mechanical and electrical instrumentation.

The MSU500 requires a power source of 24 to 36 Vdc. An assortment of built-in features and sinking-type inputs, such as direction control, internal protection devices, selectable maximum output current, Full-step/Half-step and micro-step input selections, and clock input signals of +CW, -CW, and +CCW, and -CCW, are available. In addition, a green light indicator provides users with a visual of the unit's outgoing signals and communication with the motor and controller. An automatic motor current on/off input during non-running periods is intended to prevent the motor from overheating.

The unit offers steps reaching up to 50,000 steps per revolution. It also offers eight microstep settings intended to provide optimal resolution.

The device is designed for easy connection via five wires and appropriate pins that help create flexible applications and simplify user workload. The unit weighs 310 grams, but is designed for applications that require precise micro stepping capabilities such as medical equipment, pick-and-place assembly systems, robotics, packaging, telecommunication products, and satellite positioning systems.
