Software Development Solution Targets Amcc

Software supports AMCC PowerPC 405EX and 405EXr

The Green Hills Probe will provide reliable and efficient debugging using the PowerPC 405EX and 405EXr JTAG ports.

Green Hills Software, a company specializing in device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS), has made its software development solution targeting Applied Micro Circuit Corporation's (AMCC) PowerPC 405EX and 405EXr embedded processors available.

Components of the Green Hills Software development toolkit include:

  • Optimizing C/C++ compilers for Power Architecture™.
  • A MULTI® integrated development environment (IDE).
  • A virtual prototyping platform.
  • A DoubleCheck™ static analyzer.
  • High-speed hardware debug probes.

"Green Hills Software's software development solutions are ideally suited to the networking markets for which the AMCC PowerPC 405EX and 405EXr were designed," says Charlie Ashton, director of software at AMCC. "Using Green Hills Software's professional tools and services, AMCC customers are able to maximize performance and reliability while minimizing time-to-market and product unit cost."

"With the PowerPC 405EX and 405EXr, AMCC continues to push the state of the art in flexible and high performance I/O while meeting the stringent power requirements for next generation wireless and wired embedded networking equipment," comments David Kleidermacher, chief technology officer, Green Hills Software. "To top it off, these processors' comprehensive integrated cryptographic acceleration features enable developers to achieve their target performance efficiency without compromising security."

The Green Hills solution for the PowerPC 405EX and 405Exr consists of the following components:

  • MULTI integrated development environment - providing the leading DSO tool set for embedded software developers.
  • Green Hills Power Architecture™ compilers - generating the fastest and smallest code in the industry for Power Architecture (formerly known as PowerPC).
  • Green Hills Probe - providing reliable and efficient debugging using the PowerPC 405EX and 405EXr JTAG ports.
  • DoubleCheck integrated static analyzer - increasing software reliability and reducing time-to-market by eradicating more defects early in the development process.

The PowerPC 405EX and 405EXr

The PPC405EX and PPC405EXr combine the proven performance of the PPC405 processor with a high-performance suite of peripheral and memory interfaces, including PCI Express, USB2.0 On-the-Go, DDR 2/1 and Gigabit Ethernet.

The PPC405EX and PPC405EXr also incorporate an advanced security engine, featuring header/trailer processing capability and support for the broadest range of security protocols, including IPSec, SSL, and DTLS. Both are ideally suited for next-generation WLAN, Residential Gateway, and IP-STB applications that require exceptional performance, small footprint and low power.
