Securing Global Critical Infrastructure From Cyber-attack

Security firm awarded funding from the National Research Council of Canada to advance technology solutions and shore up cyber-security.

Wurldtech™ Security Technologies, a provider of cyber-security solutions to SCADA, process-control and mission-critical industries worldwide, has reached an agreement with the Canadian National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) that will provide the company with a significant funding package. The package will support the development of new testing technologies designed to protect global critical infrastructure from cyber threats.

BlackPeer testing

Wurldtech’s™ proprietary BlackPeer testing technology will be capable of providing critical infrastructure with visibility into potential cyber vulnerabilities. The technology will be added as a follow-up feature to Wurldtech's commercial products such as the soon-to-be-launched Achilles Satellite Security Analysis Platform.

“This investment will help us to accelerate the development of our next-generation testing algorithms designed specifically to improve the quality, reliability and security of industrial control systems,” says Dr. Nate Kube, CTO of Wurldtech. “With this funding, we now have access to an extraordinary array of engineering and academic resources that is necessary for the development of this revolutionary technology.”

The NRC-IRAP funding will be used to develop the next version of Wurldtech’s™ proprietary BlackPeer testing technology, which will be capable of providing vendors and operators of mission-critical systems with unprecedented visibility into potential cyber vulnerabilities. Working together with internationally-recognized industrial network and security experts at the University of Victoria, Wurldtech expects the first version to be delivered by the first quarter in 2008, and subsequently added as a feature to its commercial product in the third quarter.

“The participation of the NRC-IRAP in this project provides Wurldtech with a significant boost in R&D resources at a pivotal time in our development process,” adds Tyler Williams, CEO of Wurldtech. “Our goal now is to bring this next innovation of our technology to full commercialization, including installation at current customer sites around the world.”

IRAP is designed to stimulate technological innovation in Canada through the support of small and medium-sized companies who are developing new and innovative technologies. The program offers direct technical assistance, access to technological advances and facilities, expertise in marketing and other business aspects and cost-shared financing of innovative technical projects.
