
Leading global manufacturer marks completion of 50th anniversary year with name change; new ROHM Semiconductor logo style and color embody corporate heritage and market positioning

ROHM (San Diego, CA) announces its new corporate name and logo, effective January 1, 2009.
ROHM Semiconductor, in business for over fifty years and with sales of nearly $4 billion, has grown from its roots as a compact resistor manufacturer to become one of the world’s largest, full-range suppliers of semiconductor products, according to the company.
According to Nobuyuki Nakano, president of ROHM Semiconductor, North America, “[The] new name affirms our heritage as a company that persistently evolved from resistor products while defining our strength as a semiconductor manufacturer. Our new company logo features the color Venture Red to represent the venture spirit that started our company and sustains it.”
In 1958 Toyo Electronics Industry Corporation was founded as a compact resistor manufacturer carrying on the work of the venture firm established four years earlier.

Then in 1967, the company moved into the development and manufacture of semiconductor products that defines the ROHM of today. Since semiconductors account for most of its sales revenue, the company will now be known as ROHM Semiconductor.
The new ROHM Semiconductor logo design is bold and definitive symbolizing the company’s character:
- An original font that expresses the company’s unique combination of flexibility and stability.
- A custom color (Venture Red) symbolizing the venture spirit that infuses the company heritage.
- The solid rectangular shape that reflects the form of semiconductor chips.
