Photoshop Pushes Its Way Into Design

Adobe® Photoshop® CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended, two new editions of the industry standard for digital imaging

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended features support for 3-D and video workflows, animation and in-depth image analysis.

Adobe Systems recently announced the availability of Adobe® Photoshop® CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended, two new editions of the industry standard for digital imaging. According to the company, Photoshop CS3 software is an upgrade that offers innovations in editing power and productivity. Photoshop CS3 Extended allows creative professionals to discover new dimensions in digital imaging, harnessing everything in Photoshop CS3 plus groundbreaking tools for 3-D, motion graphics, image measurement and analysis.

Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended are available as stand-alone applications or as components of Adobe's expanded Creative Suite® 3 family. The software is a universal application for both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs, and supports Microsoft® Windows® XP and Windows Vista. Adobe says users will experience increased levels of performance and speed running Photoshop CS3 on Intel-based Macintosh systems and Windows hardware.

Some new features of Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended include:

  • An auto-align layers command that automatically aligns multiple Photoshop layers or images based on similar content, then analyzes details and moves, and rotates or warps layers to align them perfectly.
  • An auto-blend layers command that blends color and shading to create smooth, editable results.
  • Camera Raw functionality to rapidly process raw images with increased speed and enhanced conversion quality.
  • Support for more than 150 raw formats.
  • Compatibility with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom™.

Some features of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended include:

  • Support for 3-D and video workflows, animation and in-depth image analysis.
  • The capacity to render and incorporate rich 3-D content into 2-D compositions, including texture editing on 3-D models.
  • Enhanced vanishing point, a tool designers can use to measure in perspective, in addition to the ability to export results to a 3-D model.
  • Video format and layer support to edit video files frame by frame, as well as the ability to export the content into a variety of formats.
