Company now closer to Asian customers and partners
OSRAM, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens, recently held an opening ceremony for the new Asia regional headquarters of its subsidiary, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, a specialist in semiconductor technology for lighting, sensor and visualization applications.
Headed by Dr. Alfred Felder, CEO OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Asia Ltd., the new office will initially house staff to coordinate sales and marketing activities in Asia.
“Choosing Hong Kong as our new regional headquarters reflects our long-term commitment to Greater China and the Asia market, which is open to innovative solutions in LED lighting,” says Dr. Rüdiger Müller, CEO of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, who performed the opening together with Dr. Felder. “The opening of this office represents a successful step forward in the strategic development of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors in Asia and paves the way for us to strengthen our sales and marketing efforts here.”

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors selected Hong Kong for its regional headquarters to be nearer to customers and partners in Asia, especially Greater China, Korea and Japan. Regional OSRAM activities for other business units have been located in Hong Kong since 2006.
The opening of the Hong Kong headquarters follows the groundbreaking in July 2007 of a second opto chip factory in Penang, Malaysia which, when it opens in Spring 2009, will be the world's most advanced chip factory to serve the booming LED market, according to the company.
The expansion of its production capacity made possible by the new factory in Penang, together with the opening of its Hong Kong headquarters, will put OSRAM Opto Semiconductors in a better position to meet growing demand for LEDs in Asia Pacific.
