
Norplex-Micarta, a manufacturer of high performance thermoset composites, has recently expanded its services to offer contract manufacturing. This service can be used to enhance a customer’s manufacturing capabilities, or to augment existing capacity for high-volume production. Norplex-Micarta is already providing contract manufacturing services for multiple material manufacturers, as well as various anti-ballistic materials for major military manufacturers.
Norplex-Micarta’s product line serves power generation, military/aerospace, oil and gas, medical devices, electrical devices, electronics assembly, construction, heavy industry, and transportation markets throughout Europe, Asia/Pacific and the Americas.

Norplex-Micarta has recently appointed Timothy Delaney to product development engineer and Jon Thorstenson to the position of manufacturing engineer at the company’s Postville, IA headquarters.
Delaney will be responsible for managing all aspects of product development, including manufacturing, testing, and incorporating customer feedback.
At his new post, Delaney will also oversee all aspects of the manufacturing processes associated with new product development, in addition to working with manufacturing personnel and relevant equipment to ensure quality control.
Prior to his appointment, Delaney served as project engineer at Advanced Component Technologies. His responsibilities included managing start-up activities and development for new products, providing customer support and implementing new handling systems. He holds a Bachelor of Science in both Biomedical Science and Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

As a manufacturing engineer, Thorstenson’s responsibilities include the safety review of new equipment, installation and process improvements as well as equipment testing and specification. He will also be responsible for product improvement as well as new product development.
In addition to his safety and development duties, Thorstenson will oversee the environmental aspects of Norplex-Micarta’s manufacturing in order to ensure that the company complies with all air, water and solid waste regulations. He will also be responsible for customer sample preparation.
Thorstenson completed his Masters of Science at Iowa State University in December 2007. Prior to his appointment, he served as a technical services co-op engineer at Marathon Ashland Petroleum, where he worked to provide customers with process information and develop performance monitors for fluidized catalytic reactors.
