Phoenix, AZ – Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), announces the release of the Xilinx Spartan-3A DSP 1800A Video Kit and the NEC 6.5 inch LCD Panel Kit.

Both kits provide solutions for exploring, prototyping, and developing designs in the video surveillance, machine vision, video processing, and embedded LCD panel interface applications.

Avnet’s Xilinx Spartan-3A DSP 1800A Video Kit is a fully integrated platform comprised of the new NEC 6.5 inch LCD Panel Kit, the Avnet PS-Video EXP module, and the Spartan-3A DSP Starter Kit.

Multiple video input and output formats, along with the flexibility of the Spartan-3A DSP FPGA, provide the necessary hardware and interfaces that designers need to explore video application designs. Several FPGA-based reference designs are provided and highlight interface capabilities and the DDR2-based video frame buffer controller.

The NEC 6.5 inch LCD Panel Kit, encased in a customized plastic enclosure, includes a 1024 x 768 pixel Extended Graphics Array (XGA), LED backlight, LCD panel, a 12 volt power supply and a data interface cable.

The kit is the perfect add-on display for the Avnet PS-Video EXP Module, providing a high resolution panel for the various video functions included on the PS Video module.

The NEC panel and PS Video EXP can be added to several of the Avnet EXP enabled baseboards, which support Virtex-5 and Spartan-3A devices, to create a complete prototype environment for developing video solutions.

“The new Avnet Spartan-3A DSP 1800A Video Kit is built upon the popular Xilinx Spartan-3A DSP 1800A baseboard,” says Jim Beneke, vice president of technical marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing.

“We added video input and output capabilities and a high resolution LCD panel for consumer LCD flat panel display development. Reference designs are then provided that show designers how to drive the panel’s LVDS interface, buffer video frames, and perform real-time video processing within the FPGA.”

“Avnet’s Video Kit complements Xilinx’s portfolio of video solutions,” adds Tim Erjavec, senior director of Platform Solutions and Services Marketing for Xilinx.

“The reference designs, included with this kit, are built upon an embedded design framework that enables users to get customized video designs running within hours by leveraging a rich set of Xilinx intellectual property (IP), development tools and design methodologies. This helps customers reduce risk and focus their design efforts on value added product differentiation.”
