Moving Spool Winder

This moving spool winder is designed for spooling fine wires, ribbon, textile braids, lace, and other materials that can crease, fold, or snap when traversed onto a spool. Instead of traversing the material onto the spool, the winder moves the spool back and forth to create a smooth and even buildup of level layers across the spool core. The material being spooled remains in line from payoff to take-up, eliminating the lateral stress, pulling, and the risk of deformation normally associated with winding flat, delicate, or brittle materials that tend to break, tear, or twist. This minimizes damage to material, reduces waste, and cuts production interruptions. The system uses a rolling ring linear actuator installed in a fixed position in a guide rail-mounted assembly. Traversing forces are transferred from the linear actuator to the spool carriage which moves back and forth to ensure smooth and even take-up lay lines.
