MTA-50 IDC connectors shrink contact centerlines down to 0.05 in. and come in versions having two to 28 contact positions. To accommodate tight positional tolerances, contacts are staggered from row to row. To achieve pre-alignment, the connector housing engages before the contacts do, and to help keep connectors mated, the housing employs an interference fit. Also, polarization ribs help prevent mismating.
Receptacle housings are color-coded for 16-, 28-, and 30-gauge wires, and the connectors allow both feed-through and point-to-point wiring. In addition, ribbon cable needs no preparation before termination and a protective strain-relief cover encloses exposed contacts. Headers come in surface-mount and through-hold styles as well as in both vertical and right-angle configurations. Tape and reel packaging for surface-mount versions simplifies pick-and-place assembly.
