The 7815B IR camera is designed to serve as an x-ray machine for building diagnostics and to simplify professional thermal imaging point-and-shoot. The device identifies a range of hidden issues that can add to the expense of building ownership. Features include a high-resolution microbolometer camera, a visible light camera, and laser target dot. The 7815B IR camera detects air infiltration, moisture intrusion, mold, fungus, energy losses, pest infestations, and other problems. Engineers can add the manufacturer’s ThermalSpection software for R-value calculation, which produces professional reports and calculates heat losses and current R-values of walls and doors. The 7815B IR camera, priced at $16,500, features a 320 x 240 detector said to offer four times the resolution of standard 160 x 120 cameras. The detector resolves an area smaller than 0.10 sq. in. at 6 ft., resulting in precise temperature measurement and thermal images that are free of pixelating. In addition to the IR detector, the device features a laser pointer and visual camera that provides a 752 x 480 pixel image. Both IR and visual cameras offer a focusing range of 12 in. to infinity. The IR detector measures passive radiation emitted by a target and converts the temperature readings into a 2D image that shows the temperature distribution at the target surface. Engineers can view thermal images in grayscale or full color. Several color palettes are available to enhance definition and interpretation. Optimized for a working range of -40° to +120°C, the 7815B is accurate to ۬°C (۬ percent). Onboard diagnostic software provides an intuitive menu system, which is accessed by a pushbutton control panel on the back of the camera. The camera can store up to 1,300 14-bit images to internal flash memory. A USB 2.0 port allows engineers to transfer images and image data to external devices. An articulating 3.5-in. LCD display provides an optimum viewing angle no matter how the camera is aimed. The display folds down to cover the control panel when not in use. Featuring an ergonomic pistol-shaped housing, the IR camera weighs 2.9 lbs and is designed for simple one-hand operation. The device, which can also be mounted on a tripod, resists dust, weather, shock, and vibration. Two Li-ion batteries are included. Each lasts for approximately 2.5 hours when fully charged. Accessories include a smart battery charger, AC adapter, DC interface cable, USB cable, carrying case, and downloader software.
