Idi Enhances Customer Cost-cutting

IDI Composites International, a global formulator and manufacturer of thermoset molding compounds, has announced a full prototyping capability for product development. The capability allows IDI to demonstrate the use of its materials in specific customer applications, aiding customers in finalizing product specifications prior to a high volume production. The product is particularly helpful for customers who use metals or other materials for current part production and are considering a conversion to thermoset molding compounds.

IDI Composites utilizes a CAD-driven CNC process to machine a part from solid thermoset materials. According to IDI, the process can reduce customer molding and tooling costs, and enable customers to test the material in finished product form at actual specifications. The part is then molded and subjected to normal first article inspection and process modification.
