A high force size 14 hybrid external linear actuator has a rotating stainless steel acme lead screw incorporated into the rotor. Shaft to lead screw couplings are not needed, saving time, money, and labor during assembly into the final application. The external linear actuator replaces four different components a motor, coupling, lead screw, and nut. The nut on the external linear actuator uses the same high performance engineering thermoplastics as the rotor drive nut of non-captive and captive designs. This feature ensures trouble-free, long life operation for use in high precision applications. This external linear hybrid actuator is available in a variety of resolutions ranging from 0.00012 to 0.00192 in. per step and delivers thrusts of up to 50 lbs. without compromising life or cost. A standard size 14 external linear has 4 in. of visible lead screw; however, lead screw length, coil termination, and the external nut, can be customized to fit application requirements. In this design, the lead screw is an integral part of the motor with a mating nut translating along the screw. As the motor steps, the lead screw rotates but does not advance. The lead screw end can be machined to allow the use of outboard bearing support for long lead screw lengths. Applications requiring precise positioning and rapid motion are best suited for this motor. Typical applications include medical equipment, x-y tables, automation, and valve control.
