Controlling Motion

Danaher Motion has released its latest PiCPro software, capable of supporting up to 64 axes of high performance motion control. Designed to simplify the integration of the most demanding machine and motion control applications, PiCPro is used to program the MMC-D64 machine and motion controller and provides seamless connectivity with MMC Smart Drives and AKM servo motors.

PiCPro offers easy-to-apply machine and motion control by combining the simplicity of IEC61131 ladder logic or structured text programming with the power of 100 MHz Ethernet motion control. PiCPro provides a flexible and complete instruction set optimized for continuous motion, including standard functions for gearing, camming and automatic registration correction. These standard functions provide all the tools necessary to easily automate the sophisticated machinery found in typical printing, packaging and converting applications. A single integrated development environment for logic, motion and drive setup/maintenance with features ranging from automatic drive discovery to system commissioning with a single click of the mouse, reduce system startup time by up to 90 percent over traditional systems.

The new MMC-D64 digital motion controller offers a multitude of benefits such as providing real-time data to the application program over the digital motion control network, one-click download of firmware or parameters to all the drives on the network, numerous connectivity options for interaction with third party devices for data transfer and sharing and significant I/O expansion capabilities. These features enable machine builders to optimize machine operation in high performance machine and motion control applications.

The digital MMC products are designed to work seamlessly with MMC Smart Drives, available in 230 and 460 V packages ranging from 500 W to 65 kW continuous output power. They also work with AKM rotary motors and DDR and Cartridge DDR direct-drive motors. The AKM and DDR motor families offer high torque density and a wide array of user specific options, including mount, feedback types and resolution and connectivity.
