Protective Jackets Guard Against Workplace Dangers

Computers in the workplace face dangers around every corner, especially in a manufacturing environment where there are often caustic liquids, sharp edges, and heavy machinery. Workers in these harsh environments need tablet PCs that can stand up to the brutal conditions. Hewlett-Packard (HP) recognized this and sought the help of Inclosia Solutions to developed two protective jackets for its HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1100. The HP Tablet PC Portable Grip and the HP Tablet PC Rugged Case provide professional-grade protection for these portable workstations.

"These cases not only meet HP's stringent durability and ruggedness standards, but they are elegant accessories for professional settings," says Tom Tarnowski, global business manager for Inclosia Solutions.

The jackets protect the tablet PCs from impact, dust, and contamination, while allowing full access to device features and functions. They are designed to provide tethered access plugs for ports that can be easily installed and removed without special tools.

"HP Tablet PC users want the grab-and-go convenience of taking their PCs into a variety of work settings — from hospitals to construction sites," says Maila Seif, director of mobile solutions for the Personal Systems Group at HP. "With these protective jackets, they can confidently use their tablet PCs where ever their work takes them. With the increased freedom of movement these jackets provide, users will discover new levels of productivity as they benefit from the HP Tablet PCs' mobility and versatility in more demanding settings."

Designed for highly mobile usage in environments requiring some level of protection, the compact, low-weight Tablet PC Portable Grip is made for healthcare workers such as nurses and doctors, as well as sales professionals. For the Portable Grip, Inclosia designed a single-piece, injection-molded (latex-free) polyurethane body that slips around the tablet PC, with internally projecting ribs for additional impact protection at the corners.

The HP Tablet PC Rugged Case is designed for customers with higher durability needs, including those working in real estate, construction, manufacturing, distribution, and the public sector. The case provides a drop protection rating of 42 in. and provides water resistance designed with IP 51 standards in mind.

Inclosia designed the injection-molded case using TPU to provide stiffness and strength while minimizing weight and bulk, and polycarbonate for impact, abrasion, chemical, and water resistance. The case also has a clear, anti-glare, rigid polycarbonate window that is abrasion-resistant to protect the display while maintaining the full functionality of the writing pen.
